POST-ELECTION STATEMENT: Today, we can be thankful that President Obama has won a second term. And in Santa Monica, we can be proud that a candidate who stands for the same "responsible growth" policies we championed finished first in the race for one of four seats on the Santa Monica City Council.
But there is another story that will be told in our city today, not by as many, but no less important. And that is the story of how a newcomer to politics, with only the support of friends, family and a small but dedicated group of volunteers, put principles and people first, ran the right kind of grassroots campaign for the right reasons, and finished strong, despite having only a quarter of the money of the top candidates.
I am so proud of all of you, for caring about people and our city. I am so thankful to all of you, for supporting me and our cause and giving your all. We came up a bit short, but we are winners when it comes to working for what matters. We stand for principles and for progress. And we always will. All of you, all of us, can walk tall today, and tomorrow. We have much to be proud of, and our city is a better city today because of your efforts and dedication. Thank you so much. -- John
